Basically, what DFS (Distributed File System) is something on Active Directory that sets up a virtual file-path to mapped network shares across multiple servers. Let's say I got 3 servers. AD01 (Active Directory), FS01 (Fileserver) and FS02. All my fileshares are currently on FS01. Users map these to things like Z: Share. And U: Utilities. I set up DFS replication roles on the two fileservers, and the DFS management console on my AD controller (for simplicity). Now, in the console, set up a new DFS 'namespace'. Something like 'dfs'. Then, to it I map the location on my Fileserver of my first shared folder. So, starting with 'Share', which for this example is on D: Data Share on machine FS01, I tell my dfs namespace that 'Share' is on FS01, at location D: Data Share Now, I can use the path: MyDomain dfs Share to get to this fileshare path. Ok, next is the magical part. Now that I got my one server mapped to my DFS path, I add a replication server to it. I'm here to break down this guide into two parts. A windows program to reformat a hard drive for a mac. What Database Program Is The For A MacAccess Database For MacI say this second target is FS02, at location D: Data Share Now, all my data from FS01 D: Data Share is copied into a new directory on FS02 under D: Data Share, and it's shared as well automatically! I have all my users who used to have Z: mapped to FS01 Share. Remap the drive to MyDomain dfs Share I'm done!
